Unusual Melbourne

Unusual Melbourne

A friend recently asked what was unusual about Melbourne.

Unlike me, I didn't have an immediate answer. Yes, I know, most unlike me, who knows everything (well, supposedly) about Melbourne.

I had to digest the question before regurgitating an answer because what one person might say is 'unusual', another might say is mysterious, unexplained or spooky.

I googled 'Unusual Melbourne' and the immediate results were not what I would call unusual, more unusual results than unusual things but in most cases, nothing more than search engine fodder.

One also has to be careful when describing a venue or an event as 'unusual' in Melbourne as it can be taken the wrong way.

Take the virtualtourist.com (link down below), who came up for unusual with William Ricketts Sanctuary, Lysterfield Park, Avenue of Honour on the Maribyrnong River Trail and even St Patrick's Cathedral. Off The Beaten Path, yes, unusual no.

Take our friends over at melbourneplaygrounds.com.au, unusual playgrounds, yes, because they featured something unusual within each playground, albeit none of the playgrounds was in Melbourne.

weekendnotes.com comes up with a list of unusual things to do in Melbourne, but meditation in FedSquare could hardly be described as unusual.
