Melbourne's Best PIZZA

Pizza connoisseurs need not travel across seas to Da Michele in Naples for their all-important fix, as Melbourne, one of the worlds most renowned food destinations, is now home to some seriously good pizzerias. In the inner north there is I Carusi, and the inner east, Mulatta. For those around the bay, the trendy Pizza e Birra, and out in the suburbs, Pizza Espresso. Central to all of these, smack bang in the heart of the CBD, is Trunk. For those who haven't yet tried the pizza, it is the real deal. In 11 different flavours, the menu ranges from the traditional 'Pommodoro' (tomato, mozzarella & basil) and the 'Prosciutto' with Fratelli Galoni Parma prosciutto, right through to the 'Fungi' (porcini pesto, mozzarella & sauteed mushrooms), the 'Salsiccia' (Italian sausage, broccoli, tomato, mozzarella & chilli) and for cheese lovers, the decedent 'Formaggi,' with mozzarella, taleggio, gorgonzola, parmigiano & rocket. The best bit is that Trunk also does take-away, so you can bring that slice of Italy back to the office, or swing by on your way home for a no-fuss dinner. The man beside the oven is Head Pizza Chef, Manuel Casagni. Born in Grosseto, a small city south of Tuscany, Manuel lived just a few kilometres.
