Sydney Theatre Company: The Picture of Dorian Gray

The Picture of Dorian Gray

A Sydney Theatre Company production
The Picture of Dorian Gray
By Oscar Wilde
Adapted and directed by Kip Williams

Following sold-out seasons in London's West End and on Broadway, this Olivier and Tony Award-winning production returns to Australia, giving Melbourne audiences another chance to experience its remarkable blend of acting, stagecraft and technology.

Nikki Shiels takes on 26 characters in a performance that shifts between live action and filmed images. Having appeared as the alternate performer during the 2022 Sydney and Melbourne seasons, she now takes the lead, following Eryn Jean Norvill and Sarah Snook.

At the centre is Wilde's haunting story of a young man whose portrait bears the consequences of his actions while he remains outwardly untouched. Beauty, vanity and moral corruption become the ingredients of an increasingly dangerous bargain.

Kip Williams' inventive adaptation turns this classic into an exhilarating theatrical experience. Cameras, screens and live performance create a shifting world of characters and perspectives, placing one actor at the heart of a production of extraordinary scale.

Whether you missed its earlier Melbourne season or want to experience it again, The Picture of Dorian Gray promises a compelling encounter with Wilde's story and a remarkable feat of performance.
