Lee and Sinatra classics reimagined

Jackie Bornstein and Hue Blanes Celebrate Peggy Lee and Frank Sinatra in Duets

Vocalists Jackie Bornstein and Hue Blanes will unite for Duets - Peggy Lee and Frank Sinatra, a live program celebrating two of the most influential popular singers of the 20th century.

Bornstein and Blanes will perform both together and individually, bringing their own interpretations to songs closely associated with Lee and Sinatra. The repertoire moves between swinging standards and intimate ballads, reflecting the range, phrasing and emotional restraint that shaped the recordings of both artists.

Alongside "Fly Me to the Moon", "Our Love Is Here to Stay" and "Don't Smoke in Bed", the concert will draw on a broader catalogue of songs recorded during two careers that helped define American jazz and popular music.

A friendship behind the music

The performance will also examine the friendship between Lee and Sinatra, connecting their personal relationship with their parallel rise through the big band era and subsequent success as solo recording artists.

Stories shared throughout the concert will provide context for the music and consider how Lee and Sinatra developed distinctive approaches to interpreting lyrics. Rather than imitating the original recordings, Bornstein and Blanes will revisit the material through contemporary vocal arrangements and live musical interplay.

Six-piece jazz ensemble

Blanes will accompany the performance on piano as well as vocals, with Bornstein on voice. They will be joined by Anton Delecca on saxophone, Yael Zamir on flute, Philip Rex on bass and Ryan Menezes on drums.

The combination of piano, woodwind, bass and drums will allow the ensemble to move between close vocal duets, spacious ballads and fuller jazz arrangements across the program.
