Yarra Glen Racecourse
Yarra Valley Racing is located at Yarra Glen in the heart of the Yarra Valley. Under an hours drive from Melbourne, the Yarra Valley is famous for its fresh food, wine and breathtaking scenery.
In 1858 racing in the Yarra Valley commenced at a track built at Brushy Creek in an area then known as Yarra Flats.
In the 1890's the area became known as Yarra Glen and the Yarra Glen Racing Club operated from that time.
The Club owned the freehold until 1972 when the Yarra Glen Racing Club transferred its land ownership to the Victorian Government and the Healesville Trotting Club relocated and became a co-tenant as the Yarra Glen Harness Racing Club.
In 2004 the Yarra Glen Racing Club Inc and the Yarra Valley Harness Racing Club Inc amalgamated to form Yarra Valley Racing Inc.
A day at the races - it's a wonderful thing
A chance to road-test your new frock, polish those cufflinks and soak up the sun, cheering on a winner as the field thunders down the home straight. Squeeze a cheeky breakfast mimosa in there somewhere and you've got the recipe for a perfect weekend.
But Yarra Valley Racing isn't just another day at Flemington or Caulfield. This is country racing with a pinch of glam, which means rural character, proper service, farm-fresh produce, and local wines that'll have you seriously considering a TreeChange. We don't do jam-packed crowds, and we don't do car park gridlock. For us, racing's better when it's stress-free, fun and family-friendly. Queueing an hour for taxis isn't really our idea of a good time.
If you need directions, you'll find us in Yarra Glen, right in the heart of the Yarra Valley (just follow the grapes). It's about an hour out of Melbourne. Close enough for an easy day trip, but far enough to get away from the big smoke.
That scent on the wind? Yep, that's real country air (...and maybe a whiff of horse).
After dining and hospitality packages? We've got everything from a market umbrella to custom-built corporate marquees, complete with TVs, roving canapés and an open bar. Get comfy with a three-course lunch in the Grand Stand, sip a Shiraz in your private enclosure, or plonk yourself on the lawn with a gourmet, pre-prepared picnic hamper (courtesy of our in-house chefs).
Whatever your track style, you can take it easy: a day at the Yarra Valley Races means you've already picked a winner. Everything else is just gravy.
