DON'T MISS THE WORLD'S LARGEST FLOATING FRUIT BOWL AT RIVER GRAZE
31 MARCH - 02 APRIL
Kicking off the 25th Melbourne Food and Wine Festival presented by Bank of Melbourne's (MFWF) opening weekend, River Graze presented by Melbourne Water will see the banks of the Yarra River transformed into a food and wine lover's playground, bursting with culinary hot-spots, free entertainment and regional flavours.
River Graze will feature more than 60 stallholders, food trucks, producers and Victorian wineries stretched over a kilometre, from Federation Square to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Staged along the banks of the Yarra River, River Graze celebrates the role Melbourne's water plays in the city's thriving food culture, with the fun spilling onto the river itself.
MFWF, in partnership with Melbourne Water, will be presenting the world's largest floating fruit bowl, highlighting how water is the secret ingredient to Melbourne's culinary successes with fruit stickers showing what percentage each item is made up of Melbourne water.
'Water is in all the great produce we eat, drink and grow, and River Graze is a perfect opportunity soak up the Festival atmosphere while celebrating the role the Yarra River plays in Melbourne's thriving food culture,' MFWF CEO, Natalie O'Brien said.
'It also creates a fantastic space for Melburnians to meet and enjoy events like the MFWF, right in the heart of our great city.'
Further down the river, dessert-lovers can indulge at Sweet Alley with a KoKo Black Chocolate Experience featuring hot chocolates and iced coffees, plus baked treats including hot cross buns from Rustica, 7 Apples Gelato and St Jerry's Doughnuts.
Across the river, kids can get their hands dirty at Little Foodies, planting seeds with Little Veggie Patch Co.'s produce patch, sample beetroot icy poles from Proud & Punch or meet the farmers of Dairy Australia.
Friends can gather at City Cellar and enjoy the drops of 30 different Victorian wineries without leaving the city. Entry is $10 and includes a Festival glass, with wines available for purchase by the bottle and by the glass. Enjoy an afternoon by the riverside, accompanied by Maker & Monger cheese plates, Left Bank seafood platters and deli packs by butcher, Peter Bouchier.
Beer and cider lovers will revel in South Wharf Craft Beer Weekend and Southgate Cider Orchard, with the best Australian brews from the country's artisan producers including Melbourne's Cider House, Tasmania's Frank's Cider, and Hawkers Beer.
Festival goers can sharpen their home cooking skills with cooking demonstrations featuring MasterChef Alumni Dani Venn, Justine Scofield, Matt Sinclair, Michael Weldon and Philip Vakos plus Burch and Purchese's Darren Purchese. Your favourite MasterChef stars will man the hot plates of a V-ZUG kitchen at Queensbridge Square's Culinary Village on Saturday and Sunday.
A range of multi-cultural cuisines will also be available - enjoy bubbling raclette or cheesy fondue at Fed in French, traditional Nepalese pizzas at Crown Live Pizza Festival featuring T'Gallant, or stroll through a Spanish market with a cold cerveza and plate of jamon at Mercado de la Bar & Eatery.
