Major Events Guide
The Melba Spiegeltent presents La Soiree - a live event with a gypsy soul and a hungry heart! A spiegeltent is a hand-hewn pavilion used as travelling dance hall and wine tasting marquee since the early 20th century. A theatre, a salon, a portal to another time and more, La Soiree opens for previews on August 15, and will run for a limited season until November 18 at Northcote Town Hall Civic Square.


The Australian Malaysian Film Festival will be taking place this weekend at ACMI.

This boutique film festival celebrates Visit Malaysia Year 2007 and the nation's 50th anniversary with special screenings of three films. The engaging films will be of rich diversity, as well as of historical and contemporary cultural significance.


The Australian Masters of Fashion Parade will be held at Sandringham College this Friday.

The spectacular fashion parade showcases the work of winners and finalists from design categories of the Australian Masters of Fashion, one of the most highly regarded events in Australia's Fashion Couture Industry.


Energise Enterprise 07 is Victoria's premier Small Business Festival, taking place throughout August with a huge range of events, workshops and information sessions and forums.

With over 400 events in metropolitan and regional Victoria to choose from Energise Enterprise 07 has something to offer everyone.


The Phantom of the Opera, Broadway's longest running musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber has made its triumphant return to Melbourne at the Princess Theatre with Performances selling quickly.

Starring the extraordinary Anthony Warlow in his career defining role, this sweepingly romantic hit is a breathtaking phenomenon not to be missed!


The Portable Film Festival, featuring the best in short film and internet video culture, takes place through August.

Costing nothing at all to sign up, you can use any portable device such as iPod, Sony PSP, laptop computer or even your mobile phone to download films from this years festival programme.


Giant Sky Wheel
The Giant Sky Wheel at Birrarung Marr offers stunning panoramic views of Melbourne's city that are simply breathtaking!

The Giant Sky Wheel offers a view that just shouldn't be missed.

Come ride the largest travelling ferris wheel in the southern hemisphere at Birrarung Marr from 11th April to 7th October 2007.

Birrarung Marr is located adjacent to Federation Square easily accessed from Swanston Street and Flinders Street.

Exhibitions - Art | Festival | Show
Collective Memory is the new solo exhibition of Jennyfer Stratman. Opening August 15 at Über Gallery, Stratman's sculptures investigate the landscapes of the psyche and how these resonate with the landscapes of the natural environment.


Artefact is an exhibition in which thirteen contemporary artists have woven small-scale works through historical artefacts, putting a new twist on the traditional forms of display at City Museum's Making Melbourne Galleries.


A Kind of You is the first Australian solo exhibition of works by renowned New York artist Roni Horn, who explores the variability of human identity through sequential photographs, capturing subtle shifts in expression, time and atmosphere.


Continuum, an exhibition by Bronwen Garner features collage works on paper, explores the notion of imaginary space. Using a diverse range of colours and textures, the collages of torn paper are layered and arranged to create a feeling of depth.


Winter in Banyule is Banyule's annual arts festival, featuring many and varied local artists. Beginning August 4th, the festival offers a broad range of art, music, dance, heritage and film events in locations all around the district.


Melbourne Pinhole is an exhibition of the photography of David Tatnall, a resident of Melbourne and a committed conservationist. Instrumental in gaining public support for this cause, his work is on show at the City Library's Gallery.

Arts & Theatre
Weary - The story of Weary Dunlop is a two-act play that pays tribute to one of Australia's greatest icons.

Celebrating the spirit and heart of Weary Dunlop, the play opens this Friday at the Comedy Theatre.


Criminology is a play in which easy assumptions about guilt, innocence, and the value of life are shaken to the core. Based on a shocking true story, it is the chronicle of a death foretold, but not prevented - an erotic, adrenaline-fuelled ride into the dark blood of a killer.


Chapters from the Pandemic is an atmospheric performance by Angus Cerini. Using dance and theatre, the performance is the story of a lone survivor set in a desolate Earth, and told through breathtaking movement and visual design.


Dark Angels, performing at Ondergronds Bar, is a murder mystery using a comedy format set in a strip cum fetish club. Featuring Katie Underwood, Dark Angels is a controversial new musical which is a grand mix of burlesque, mystery and comedy.
