The 2019 Melbourne International Comedy Festival turns 33 celebrating with its biggest festival, with more shows and venues than ever, becoming one of the world's largest and most respected comedy festivals.

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is one of the three largest comedy festivals in the world, alongside Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Montreal's Just for Laughs Festival.

An annual event, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival literally takes over Australia's comedy capital, Melbourne, each autumn with an enormous program of stand-up comedy, cabaret, theatre, street performance, film, television, radio and visual arts.

Arguably the crown jewel in Melbourne's entertainment calendar, the festival brings together both local and international performers for over 3 weeks of comedy, music, sly social commentary and most importantly of all.. laughs!


The Melbourne International Comedy Festival has been granted major event status to protect Victorians from ticket scalpers.

Resellers who inflate the price of major event tickets by more than 10 per cent face fines of between $800 and $480,000.

Victoria's tourism minister Martin Pakula said it was only fair for comedy lovers to be granted the same legal protections as people attending sporting grand
