When it comes to recycling office stationery, we often think of paper and printer cartridges but not of folders, binders, in-trays and magazine racks. But these items often end up in landfill as well.
When more than half of the City of Melbourne administrative staff recently relocated to the newly completed green office building, CH2, a large amount of office materials were no longer needed.
The City engaged Green Collect, a not-for-profit organisation to collect its office waste for recycling or redistribution to community and charity groups. Through this initiative, more than 40 community and charity organisations received donations of office equipment.
After the success of this program, Green Collect is seeking to develop a program to support other businesses in redistributing unwanted office materials.
