For this instalment of the Workers Window, Aniquah Stevenson has created a landscape within the window using a collection of found and handmade objects, all co-existing in quiet harmony. The materials she uses - ceramics, glass and avocado seeds - are transformative, having the capacity to change from one state to another. The themes of transition and growth are a key focus within Stevenson's practice, having herself moved to Australia from South Africa five years ago. As such, Stevenson's work is intensely personal, yet also intended to relate to the broader realm of human experience. The objects within this contained world provide the artist with a sense of comfort, and for others the work similarly offers the potential for a moment of quiet escape and contemplation.
