The new home of the Bombers, Essendon Football Club's high performance training and administration facility is called The Hangar.
The Glory and Fame sports museum celebrating the rich history and achievements of athletes from the Essendon Football Club, Paralympics Australia and the National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders Sports Hall of Fame will be open to the public, alongside a public atrium, caf© and Bomber Shop, from January 2022.
The Hangar is the High Performance Centre of the Essendon Football Club, located near the Melbourne Airport at Tullamarine. The venue opened in 2013 and became the new training and administration base of the Essendon Football Club, after relocating from their traditional base, Windy Hill.
Formerly known as the True Value Solar Centre and now the NEC Hangar, the $27 million facility features two ovals - one the size of the MCG and the other the size of Marvel Stadium, indoor training facilities and offices. A $21.5 million upgrade and expansion of the facility was completed in 2021. The main oval hosts some VFLW matches and has an estimated capacity of 2,000. The smaller oval has lighting suitable for night matches.
The Hangar is also used as the Victorian headquarters of the Australian Paralympic Committee and from October 2021, the Western United A-League club who'll base their training and administration at the facility for two years.
