Rocky Shores @ Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium

Rocky Shores, SEA LIFE Melbourne's brand-new rockpool habitat, arrives this Spring, offering a unique perspective on our ocean's little rock stars that linger along the shoreline.
Here's what to expect from our new rockpool zone, opening 19 September 2025.
Discover Rocky Shores
Zoom into rockpool life
Get ready to shrink down, make a splash, and take the plunge deep into the shallows, where you'll discover what life is like in the tidal zone.
Meet the tiny titans with huge personalities, extraordinary superpowers, totally weird - and sometimes a little bit yucky - behaviours.
Dive deep into the shallows
Here you'll explore the SEAcrets of our southern shores and meet the mighty mini-beasts that call these temperate waters home.
From sea stars that can regrow their limbs, to decorator crabs that camouflage with flair, these critters are masters of survival.
Rockpools aren't just puddles by the sea; they're bustling ecosystems on the very edge of the ocean that offer shelter, food, and protection for algae, invertebrates, small fish - and anything clever enough to hide from predators!
Encounter our rockstars
Get up close to real rockpool residents; feel the hairy legs of a hermit crab, stroke a biscuit sea star's bumpy skin, or meet a slimy sea cucumber.
Sounds gross? Good!
We think weird is wonderful. And if you're lucky, you might just spot a tentacle or two.. or eight! How cool is that? We're total suckers for an octopus.
