Victoria's new home of athletics, Albert Park's Lakeside Stadium, is up and running and ready for testing following the completion of the athletics competition facilities, which includes a world class IAAF standard track.
The Victorian Government invested over $60 million in the State Sports Facilities Project which includes the construction of Lakeside Stadium (formerly known as Bob Jane Stadium) in Albert Park.
The new state of the art Lakeside Stadium boasts an international standard athletic running track which will provide a new home for Athletics in Victoria and will stage training and competition at all levels, instrumental for the development of Athletics nation-wide.
The redevelopment project will also include restoration of the historic 1926 grandstand, which will be refurbished to become the new training and administration base for the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS).
The redevelopment of Lakeside Stadium includes purpose built football facilities such as a new FIFA size natural grass pitch, northern grandstand, electronic video board, upgraded sports lighting and new spectator amenities to enhance the overall experience.
