John Farnham

John Farnham

John Farnham, aka Farnsy, Johnny, Whispering Jack and The Voice is an iconic Australian entertainer whose career has spanned over four decades.

John Peter Farnham was born on the 1st July 1949 in England and moved to Melbourne at the age of 10 and has lived here ever since. This wannabe plumber took a break from his apprenticeship in order to pursue a music career which has seen him become one of Australia's best-loved performers with a career spanning over 40 years.

In 1967, Sadie (The Cleaning Lady) was his first hit which topped the Australian charts for six-weeks running.

This likeable English migrant became the King of Moomba at the ripe age of 22, making numerous media appearances from stage to screen.

His music style took a change from pop to rock when he fronted Little River Band. This former teen idol soon took charge over his solo career and recorded Whispering Jack, turning Farnham into a household name again with the album holding number one spot on the ARIA charts for a record 25 weeks.

Long-time manager Glen Wheatley is greatly responsible for making Farnsy a household name. He mortgaged his own house in order to pay for Farnham’s 1986 “comeback” album Whispering Jack. His strong determination and high risk endeavours re-established Farnham as an Australian singing sensation and biggest selling album of all time in Australia.

Farnham has performed with the likes of Aussie icons Olivia Newton-John and Anthony Warlow in The Main Event; Kate Ceberano, James Reyne and Human Nature in I Can’t Believe He’s 50 Tour; and most importantly supporting the Aussie troops in Dili in the Tour of Duty concert with Kylie Minogue and a string of other musicians.

The Last Time tour was just that, Farnham’s last major concert which ended in 2003 with a standing ovation that lasted more than 10 minutes, and broadcast into millions of homes nationally.

Since releasing his greatest hits album One Voice, Farnham was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. He has since teamed up with the likes of music heavyweight Tom Jones (2005) and Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks performing a series of live shows.

Johnny Farnham is the only Australian artist to have a number one record over five consecutive decades.
