Commonwealth Games 2026 - Melbourne CANCELLED

Premier Daniel Andrews announced the cancellation of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in July 2023, citing the cost of hosting had blown out by billions since the government last year made its bid to host the games as a "predominantly regional" event. The games had been largely viewed as an attempt by the unpopular Labour Government to buy country votes in the 2022 state election. Since the cancellation, story after story has emerged showing the Labour Government had mismanaged the games from the beginning.
