Athenaeum Theatre |

Located in the centre of the city next to the Melbourne Town Hall, the Athenaeum is one of Melbourne's oldest theatres.
The Melbourne Athenaeum is Melbourne's oldest cultural institution, starting life as the city's first Mechanics Institute in 1839.
The Melbourne City Council met in the building until 1852, when the Melbourne Town Hall was built.
Today the Athenaeum houses the Athenaeum Theatre, Melbourne Athenaeum Library, Bistrot d'Orsay and a retail outlet.
The Athenaeum presents a wide range of popular theatre from Bell Shakespeare Company productions, to local and international comedy shows as an important Melbourne Comedy Festival venue.
