The Angel of Malvern

The Angel of Malvern is a restored heritage pub transformed into a three-level drinking, dining and entertainment destination on the corner of Dandenong and Glenferrie roads. First licensed as the Gardiner Hotel in 1856, the building once served Gippsland-bound travellers and became home to Victoria's first bowling green in 1862. Later chapters included the well-known Nicabela's nightclub and the Angel Tavern before the long-dormant landmark was revived by Refinery Group.

On the ground floor, the relaxed Public Bar combines exposed original brickwork with contemporary steel-framed glazing and terrazzo. Executive chef Justin North and head chef Josh Rudd lead a produce-focused menu of reworked pub favourites, spanning snacks and shared plates to schnitzels, burgers and steaks. Local beer, European and Australian wines, classic and signature cocktails, and the venue's Hawkers-brewed Angel Lager complete the offering, while large screens make the bar a popular place to watch sport.

Upstairs, Flores brings an Australian perspective to the coastal cooking of Spain, Portugal and southern Italy. Its share-friendly menu moves through antipasti, handmade pasta, seasonal vegetables, seafood and grilled dishes, supported by an open kitchen, marble salumi station and extensive wine selection. The intimate Cellar provides private dining, while Bar Flores suits drinks and smaller celebrations.

The top floor belongs to Lately, a moody cocktail and listening bar pairing premium drinks and late-night snacks with a rotating program of DJs.
