Japanese self-guided 'urban listening' @ Abbotsford Convent

You are invited to dawdle and listen to the sounds of the city.

The Abbotsford Convent will join the ranks of Tokyo, Belgium, Toronto and Brussels which have been 'sound mapped' by 86 year old Akio Suzuki, a Japanese sound artist who created the 'oto da te' practice of urban listening over 30 years.

Akio will identify 15-20 points from which to listen to the Convent, stencilling each spot with two ears, positioned like footprints. Visitors to the Abbotsford Convent's will be invited to follow a map to find the 'listening points' from which to contemplate the surroundings - a very meditative and therapeutic activity for people of any age.

O to da te is presented at the Abbotsford Convent as part of WinterLIVE festival, but will be accessible
