Dance Basketball and Live Cinema come together at Narrandjeri Stadium Sept 25-27 2025
A dynamic collaboration between three dancers a basketball team and a filmmaker 3 is a choreographic and technical feat that unfolds in real-time in a public sporting arena.
Originally conceived as a dance film 3 was the recipient of The Australian Ballet and Telstra's Emerging Choreographer Award.
Now reimagined as a full-length live performance the work returns to itsorigin site a basketball court to push the boundaries of form medium and movement.
Masukawa's choreography explores the intersections of athleticism artistry and improvisation while celebrating the shared virtuosity of dancers and athletes alike.
The cast includes performers Geoffrey Watson Louie Wisby and Benjamin Hurley who dance to a precise and physically demanding original score composed by Alisdair Macindoe and Robbie Divine that flows in and around an active basketball game.
Filmmaker Sam McGilp captures the action from multiple cameras presented live on a large LED screen.
Together their movements are carefully choreographed offering the audience two simultaneous coordinated experiences: the raw unfiltered performance and the mediated cinematic vision it becomes in real time
