Living Legends is superbly situated at one of the Southern Hemisphere's most historic thoroughbred properties - The Woodlands Historic Park, Homestead and Heritage Gardens.

Champion horses have been owned, bred and spelled on this property since the 1840's, making it the ideal location for our retired equine royalty.

The Homestead

Woodlands Homestead is a unique and treasured part of Victoria's heritage. Established in 1843, it is a rare example of a large pre-constructed timber kit house brought to Australia from Britain.

Today, the Woodlands Homestead houses an extensive art collection, historic artifacts, including The McCracken Collection, and horse racing memorabilia relating to our Living Legends and other Australian racing legends including Phar Lap, Carbine and Rising Fast.

Because of its historic significance, Woodlands Homestead is listed with Heritage Victoria. Living Legends is committed to the preservation of all that Woodlands Homestead and the Woodlands Historic Park has to offer our visitors from Victoria, Australia, and around the world

Our menu offers a selection of snacks, treats, light meals and beverages, and our speciality, Devonshire Tea from 10am-3.30pm each day.

Where is Woodlands Homestead?

Living Legends is based at Woodlands Homestead in Woodlands Historic Park only 6 minutes north of Melbourne Airport and about 20 km north-west of the Melbourne city centre (Melway Map: 177 Ref: H9). To reach Woodlands Homestead either drive in at the main entrance on Oaklands Road or walk from the Somerton Road picnic area.

Woodlands Homestead is open 7 days a week from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm (except Christmas Day).

How to Get There

Woodlands Historic Park is open to vehicles from 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM extending to 6:00 PM at weekends during daylight savings. Pedestrian access is available at all times.

The park is a 20 km drive from the centre of Melbourne and is immediately north of Melbourne Airport. Park entrances are off Somerton Road (Melway ref: 178 C6) and Oaklands Road for Woodlands Homestead (Melway ref: 177 J9) and Providence Road (Melway ref: 178 F10).

Walking Tours

Visit our retired, champion racehorses in their paddocks on daily guided tours at 11 am or 2 pm.

The tour includes entrance to the horse paddock area, where you can visit with and pat the Living Legends, plus have photos taken of you up close and personal with the Legends. There are also pictures and career information about each horse for you to read in the Living Legends paddock area.

Alternatively, walk around and view the Legends in their paddocks at your own pace with a self-guided tour.
