Running through the Goldfields of Central Victoria the Victorian Goldfields Railway brings to you the experience of Steam Train Travel.
Linking the historic towns of Castlemaine and Maldon your train takes you through Box-Iron Bark forest in a region that saw some of the richest gold mining in Australia.
Travel Suggestion... To enjoy a great day out, drive or catch the V/line train to Castlemaine to connect with our late morning (11.45am) train to Maldon where you have 2 hours to enjoy a leisurely lunch in one of the cafes or pubs and explore the lovely little goldfields town.
Then relax on the 2.30pm departure from Maldon, maybe enjoying a drink from the bar in first class, before arriving back at Castlemaine in the mid afternoon (3.30pm) connecting with V/line services.
When: Wednesdays and Sundays (all year) + Saturday's during school holidays.
From Maldon We leave Maldon at 10.30am and 2.30 pm.
*The 10.30am train spends 30 minutes at Castlemaine to turn the engine and returns you to Maldon at 12.30pm. Or you may choose to stay on in Castlemaine for the afternoon and catch the later 3.45 pm train back to Maldon arriving at 4.30pm.
*The 2.30pm train also gives half an hour at Castlemaine and returns you to Maldon at 4.30 pm
From Castlemaine We leave Castlemaine at 11.45 am.
*You have 2 hours to explore Maldon and have lunch and we return you to Castlemaine by 3.30pm.
*VGR trains connect with V/Line fast trains to and from Melbourne at Castlemaine station. View V/line timetables
*Castlemaine is less than 1 1/2 hours from Melbourne by road up the Calder Freeway.
