Turkish Pazar Festival 2018

Commonwealth Bank Turkish Pazar Festival 2018

It's hard to believe the year goes so quickly. It seems like only yesterday that we, together with 70,000 other people over two days, were enjoying ourselves at the 10th birthday of the Turkish Pazar Festival at the Queen Victoria Market.

The 11th Festival to be held on 10 and 11 March 2018 will again transform Queen Victoria Market into a traditional Turkish bazaar where our visitors will experience the vibrant tastes, colours and sounds of Turkey through food, music, dance, and cultural displays.

In 2018, we are also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the arrival in Melbourne of the first migrants from Turkey and also celebrating 70 years of migration from Cyprus. As the descendants of these early arrivals we acknowledge their hard work and look forward to sharing our diverse Turkish culture with the vibrant multicultural society in which we now choose to live.

Features of this year's Commonwealth Bank Turkish Pazar Festival will include a day long traditional Turkish breakfast and numerous food stalls will entice the taste buds or bring back memories. Offerings include gözleme (savoury pancakes), kebabs (how many types are there?), and an assortment of sweet and savoury tastes. Visitors can relax over an authentic Turkish coffee prepared on a hot bed of sand and maybe get their fortune told, learn about the cultural traditions of ebru (paint marbling) or buy a new carpet for their house. A new and exciting stage program will include overseas performers, local and musicians and dance groups and on Sunday a highlight will be the military precision of the colourful Australian Mehter Band, the first Ottoman style marching band outside Turkey.

All entertainment is free and suitable for people of all ages and abilities.

We look forward to seeing you. Görüṣmek üzere
