Thessaloniki in Melbourne

Somewhat belatedly we have embarked on this electronic experience which will assist us to find our cultural roots. It will also enable us to bridge the distance between two sister port cities (Thessaloniki and Melbourne) both of which are an integral part of our lives. A course with a sincere aim of greater bonding between the culture of our forefathers and the Australian way of life, tracing back in time when those great people shaped the fate of Melbourne where we live, and Thessaloniki where we originate from.

In 2004, the Sister Cities of Melbourne and Thessaloniki were renewed in ceremonies marking the 20 years of sistership between the two port cities and signed by the Lord Mayor of Melbourne John So and his counterpart Mr Panagiotis Psomiades.

The White Tower

The White Tower is the anniversary celebration of the Sister-City relations between Melbourne and Thessaloniki. Festivities include a Gala Dinner and a Festival celebrating Greek culture with food, music and entertainment.

The Annual Sister-Cities Festival is at Federation Square in Melbourne. You will need to visit this Festival where more than 40,000 people attend each year.

Government representatives from Melbourne Victoria and Thessaloniki Macedonia will be present. Many dancing groups, food stalls, arts and crafts, giveaways, music and entertainment like every year. Do not miss it.
