The Panama Dining Room is Smith St's NY style-lofty restaurant, bar and ping-pong stadium.
The Panama Dining Room is a large space with a separate though not segregated space set aside for diners where you can sit and eat a meal without the rowdy drinkers at the bar but yet still watch and hear the rabble having a good time before you finish your meal and join them.
Ferns, '60s chairs and lamps, and sleek display cabinets create a mood. It's vintage, sure, but there's not a whiff of the share-house about it.
Interesting and well-cooked European food under $20 is pretty rare in Melbourne, but it's what you get here - mostly. Elbow room comes as a matter of course.
