Milly Alcock Takes Flight In Supergirl

Australian star Milly Alcock is set to introduce a bold new version of Supergirl when the highly anticipated DC Studios film arrives in cinemas on 25 June.

Best known for her breakout role as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon, Alcock takes on one of popular culture's most recognisable superheroes in a film directed by fellow Australian Craig Gillespie.

Unlike previous incarnations of the character, this Supergirl is far from perfect. Based on the acclaimed comic series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the film presents Kara Zor-El as a flawed, resilient and fiercely independent hero struggling with grief, loss and identity while travelling across the galaxy.

For Gillespie, whose directing credits include I, Tonya, Cruella and Dumb Money, Alcock was a natural choice for the role.

The Sydney-born actor brings a distinctive edge to the character, combining vulnerability, humour and determination in a performance that has already attracted considerable attention from comic book fans.

The film follows Kara as she reluctantly joins a young girl named Ruthye on a dangerous quest for justice. What begins as an unwanted adventure soon becomes a journey that forces Supergirl to confront her own past while helping someone else navigate loss and trauma.

Joining Alcock in the cast is Jason Momoa as the fan-favourite bounty hunter Lobo, a role the actor has long campaigned to play. The film also features Eve Ridley as Ruthye, whose determination becomes central to the story.

For Australian audiences, Supergirl represents another major Hollywood success story for local talent. Alcock joins a growing list of Australian actors who have secured leading roles in global blockbuster franchises, while Gillespie continues to build an impressive career directing some of Hollywood's most successful films.

With spectacular action sequences, intergalactic adventure and a fresh take on one of DC Comics' most enduring heroes, Supergirl promises to deliver a new chapter for the character while showcasing Australian talent on the world stage.
