Sassi Cafe & Bar Williamstown

Sassi Breakfast, Seared calamari fettuccini tossed through olive oil, with sauteed spinach cherry tomatoes and garlic, oh and chillii...

Little Eats review

Sassi. Interesting name huh. It kind of conjures up visions of some glam bar, where sexy, sassy divas a la The Pussycat Dolls pout and perform! In actual fact, I used to have a fluff-ball of a Persian Cat called Sassi too. Alas, none of those sorts of shennanigans here. Sassi is quite the opposite really... just a simple, easy, spacious cafe located on 'Dougy Parade' in 'Willy'. If you're not up with the times or don't live in the West, thats the local slang for the location of this cafe.

It's not super trendy or super cool, it's just a nice, casual, local spot that has everything you need. And the Willy families sure do love it! It's popular with the weekend family brunch set, as well as the weekday Mummy, coffee and cake set. Probably one of the best things it has going for it is that is very spacious, has a wide front door with ramp access and the tables are well spread out, so it is great for group catch-ups with other families, or Mothers groups when there are multiple prams.

In addition to the ample room for kids, capsules, strollers and prams, Sassi also offer highchairs, baby change facilities, a basket of fun kids books to read, and a great little kids menu. The Babycino's also get a big thumbs up from our little ones, and at 50c and with two marshmallows, it makes for a bargain treat.

As well as the babycino, the little ones can also sip away on mini hot chocolates, milkshakes and juices and can munch away on mini pancake and strawberry skewers, egg on toast, or toasties for breakkie. And for lunch and din-din's too (yep, they are open for dinner from Thursday to Sunday and at the very family-friendly time too of 5pm) they can enjoy healthy items including grilled chicken salad, risotto, lasagne, grilled or battered fish and chips and salad, veggie and noodle str-fry, and if they are good and finish their tea, they can indulge in vanilla ice cream with choccie topping for dessert.

Sassi are currently offering a dirt-cheap dinner special, where kids mains are only $3 between 5 - 7pm, so if you live locally and really can't be bothered cooking then this place is a bit of a life saver, and won't break the bank either. And if you are lucky enough to be having a kiddie-free evening (and to be honest we all need one of those once in a while) they also have a special deal for a free glass of house wine between 7 -9.30pm. Cheers to that!

If you aren't local and are just visiting, then make sure you check out Pitter Patter just down the road for new and pre-loved kids threads, the beautiful and stylish Olifant across the road, and also The Assembly Hall, which is more about Mamma than the wee ones... it is such a unique, stunning and stylish shop filled with all kinds of beautiful bits from homewares to clothing to jewellery and is so my taste, up my alley and all that jazz. I love everything in there! I want it all! Definitely worth a squiz.
