Join a daily guided tour to beat the crowds and deepen your experience of ROME: Empire, Power, People.
Get up close to the original statues, mosaics, frescoes, jewellery and everyday objects from the humblest to the most sumptuous, in this Melbourne-exclusive exhibition. Feel the majesty and wonder of objects displayed in a chronological retelling of life in Ancient Rome.
From the fall of Julius Caesar to the power and ambition of an Empire, through the luxury of Imperial Rome and into its bustling marketplaces, daily rituals and divine beliefs, step into Ancient Rome and experience the spectacle, grandeur and enduring legacy of one of history's most powerful civilisations.
Explore Ancient Rome's political, social and spiritual worlds with over 150 objects dating from the Imperial period 1st Century CE to the 3rd Century CE, with most of the objects on display in Melbourne for the first time.
The splendour, drama and humanity of Rome is brought to life in detail with scenography and multimedia, giving visitors an immersive experience and vivid portrait of a civilisation that continues to shape our world today.
The daily tour departs prior to opening time each morning, so take this unique opportunity to view the objects and hear curatorial insights, guided by your museum Tour Guide. Audio equipment is provided, and tour guests are welcome to stay on in the exhibition to explore at your leisure, at the conclusion of the tour.
