Australian artist Rebecca Jones has been drawing and painting full time since 2005.
Swimming, surfing and skiing are recurrent themes which are explored either in her charcoal drawings or layers of oil or acrylic paint.
An artist residency with the Yarra City Council, capturing life at Fitzroy Pool gives her plenty of material to be inspired by. In 2007 she had a successful solo exhibition showcasing the first body of work from her residency. With a focus on the lone lap swimmer, charcoal drawings were created capturing still moments from the bottom of the pool as the flurry of activity above.
Rebecca Jones's next solo show, to be held at red gallery in September 2008, will explore the environment around the pool. Her paintings will concentrate on how people melt, blend, relax, interact and exercise within that space and how their movements collectively become as fluid as the water in the pool.
