Puffing Billy Railway

This historic steam train runs from Belgrave to Gembrook along it's original narrow gauge railway line.

Puffing Billy was one of five railways constructed in the early 1900s to open up rural areas of Victoria. Now a major tourist attraction, Puffing Billy runs daily transporting hundreds of passengers in its open-air carriages to the lakeside, forest and picnic destinations along its line.

The Railway depends on the tireless efforts of hundreds of volunteers who give their time freely to help Puffing Billy.

You can hang your legs out of the side of the daily Excursion Trains for the full length of the journey all the way to Gembrook.

At the Lakeside station is a new state-of-the-art Lakeside Visitor Centre. With a modern cafe, a free museum and a little retail shop. It is open daily with free entry to all.

Events at Puffing Billy include themed dinner trains such as Murder on the Puffing Billy Express, as well as the ever popular 'Train of Lights' and 'Day out with Thomas' and the annual Great Train Race. You can also visit the Menzies Creek Museum on the weekends, free entry, and can wander through the immense amount of history including over 80 railway exhibits.

Puffing Billy can be reached by suburban train - take the Belgrave line. Note Dandenong the suburb is a different destination than The Dandenongs.
