ARIA-nominated Nat Bartsch makes her Count's debut with her searing jazz quartet.
Nat Bartsch is a critically acclaimed multi-award-winning jazz and classical pianist and composer. Her meditative lyrical music defies the conventions of genre and deeply resonates often in profoundly personal moments. Nat's quartet brings this music to life with extraordinary sensitivity lyricism and emotion.
An accomplished recording artist she has released eight albums of original music as a solo artist and as bandleader for the Nat Bartsch Trio. She has toured Australia Japan and Europe performing at major venues including Hamer Hall and Melbourne Recital Centre. She has performed with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra toured Europe with Abdullah Ibrahim's Ekaya and has had two compositions in ABC Classic's Classic 100: Piano Countdown.
After several releases for ABC Classic and Jazz Nat founded her own record label Amica Records. Existing on a jazz-classical spectrum she is particularly known for her jazz reinterpretations of her classical works-leading to the formation of the Nat Bartsch Quartet (with Robbie Melville - guitar Tamara Murphy - double bass Maddison Carter - drums). Her well-known releases Forever No Time At All and Hope have all undergone this transformation. Forever received an ARIA nomination for Best Jazz Album while Hope Renewed her most recent release created a jazz/post-rock mosaic with her quartet and additional chamber musicians-earning a Music Victoria Award nomination for Best Jazz Work.
Bartsch has composed chamber music commissions for Plexus Collective Solstice Trio Matt Withers/Sally Whitwell and The Muses Trio and received numerous awards including the Catherine Mary Sullivan Scholarship Classical:NEXT Fellowship Johnny Dennis Music Award and Melbourne Prize for Music Development. She has also performed in contemporary genres with artists including Whitaker Thando Matt Corby and Circus Oz. At the 2023 Art Music Awards she won Work of the Year: Jazz for Busy/Quiet performed by her quartet with Ellen Kirkwood and Loretta Palmeiro.
In 2025 Brightness in the Hills Forever and No Time At All were voted nos. 79 and 84 in ABC Classic's Classic 100: Piano Countdown with Bartsch performing Brightness in the Hills live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra broadcast on ABC TV and ABC Classic Radio.
