Feeling like a bite to eat? Come and enjoy a light snack, delicious lunch or coffee and cake at our cafe, Mr Tulk.

Our licensed cafe, Mr Tulk, is a great place to hang out with friends over coffee or to take time out from your research.

Named after our first librarian, Augustus Tulk, the cafe is open Monday to Saturday for brunch and lunch, and for after-work drinks on Friday. Mr Tulk is one of our preferred caterers for events held at the Library.

Library Foundation members receive a 10 per cent discount on tea and coffee on presentation of their membership card.

Breakfast and brunch options at Mr Tulk range from toast and jam to omelettes and corned-beef hash. Lunch dishes include baguettes, pizza and toasted flatbreads, zucchini fritters, soups and salads. The cafe offers plenty of gluten-free and vegetarian dishes. In addition to the regular menu, the kitchen prepares daily breakfast and lunch specials.

There is also a mouthwatering selection of desserts, including lemon tarts and flourless pear, almond and caramel cake.

We are licensed and have a fine range of beer and wine. Don't miss our Friday happy hour, running 5.30-6.30pm.

To get to Mr Tulk, head through the locker area at the front of the Library or use the entrance on La Trobe Street, which also provides wheelchair access. See our floor plans for the cafe's exact location.

Mr Tulk is open:
* Monday to Thursday, 7am-5pm
* Friday, 7am-9pm
* Saturday, 9am-4pm

The cafe is closed on Sundays and public holidays.

Mr Tulk doesn't take bookings, except for private or corporate events, which can be held after hours.
