The Mevlevi Order of Australia was formed in Melbourne in 1986 by Sheikh Abdul Aziz, a pupil of the late Naqshbandi Sufi Master, Hadrat Grandsheikh Abdullah Sirr Dan al Jamal.
Mevlevi Australia 's activities include all aspects of the Sufi path to expanded consciousness, framed within the tradition of the Mevlevi path.
Mevlevi Australia is a non-profit organisation and is funded by regular and voluntary donations as well as entry fees. It meets for a variety of activities, including the whirling ceremony of Sema, dhikr (remembrance meditation), music, training in the Sema and sohbet (association) with the Sheikh.
