The Great Australian Vanilla Slice Triumph Merbein 2026
The Great Australian Vanilla Slice Triumph is a celebration of the vanilla slice held on the Murray River each August!
There's a baking competition for professionals and amateurs, lots of slices and other things to eat, entertainment, a market and more!

Since 1998, Australia's vanilla slice bakers have competed to find which of them bakes the best vanilla slice. Originally in Ouyen, and now in nearby Merbein on the Murray River, people from all over the country converge to present their best baking - or to taste it!
As well as standard vanilla slices, we have categories for innovative vanilla slices, plum puddings, fruit cakes and fruit mince tarts. And categories for everyone from professionals to primary school students.
Fun For Everyone
Our big day includes plenty of vanilla slices to eat, sold by a multitude of bakeries. If you're someone who likes to try and compare vanilla slices - this is the place to be. We also have lots of other delicious things to get your mouth around, both sweet and savoury. It's the perfect place to spend a Saturday lunch!
In addition to our edible attractions, the Triumph includes a stage full of live music, children's activities, an extensive market, vintage car displays, a vanilla slice eating competition to watch, and other things to see and do.
A Country Market
If you like to wander past market stalls, browsing unique handcrafts, fresh produce and whatever the locals are trying to unload - you'll love our market!
Merbein is also home to a number of shops that will be open on the day. Including the Merbein Mega Mart, where you can find dozens of additional trader stalls.
Plenty to Eat
The numerous vanilla slice stalls from different bakeries are an important feature of the event. They will be joined by a variety of food vans and other sellers of tasty treats. Not to mention all the open cafes, bakeries, one-off fast food stores and bistros of Merbein!
Saturday lunchtime is most people's choice for attending the Triumph, bringing together the great food on offer with the live music, children's activities and entertainment, market stalls, vintage cars, art exhibition and other attractions. Saturday morning tea is another good option!
