Melbourne & SurroundsMelbourne & Surrounds Marketing (MSM) is an industry driven co-operative marketing group working in partnership with Tourism Victoria and Parks Victoria.
In a bid to grow visitation to the destinations within 90mins of Melbourne and Melbourne itself, seven regional tourism organisations (Geelong and The Bellarine, Ballarat in the Goldfields, Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges, Nagambie and Strathbogie Ranges, Yarra Valley and the Dandenongs, Mornington Peninsula and Phillip Island) in conjunction with the peak cooperative marketing body for Melbourne (Destination Melbourne Ltd) formed a strategic marketing alliance in late 2004.
A competitive strength for Victoria is the wealth of quality regional tourism products and experiences to be found within just 90 minutes of Melbourne. Melbourne & Surrounds Marketing Inc aims to capitalise on this strength by promoting this competitive advantage in marketing activities interstate and internationally.
Melbourne & Surrounds - Weekend Getaways
Check out Melbourne's eight distinctive regions, from city to coast, spa country to the goldfields and wineries to wildlife. Then choose your must-do experiences and link it all together on one of our itineraries for a weekend getaway to remember.
Ballarat in the Goldfields
Dreams and aspirations of the gold rush echo in the landscape. Cities and villages, rich in history, fuse with contemporary vibrancy, creativity and style. Art and culture thrive, legends live on and new treasures wait to be unearthed.
Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges
The rolling hills of Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges are dotted with charming towns offering an array of health and beauty treatments, scenic surrounds, a thriving arts and crafts community and award winning food and wine.
Geelong and The Bellarine
Discover fine food and wine, historic seaside villages and breathtaking natural beauty. Come Back Down to Earth in Geelong & The Bellarine for a round of golf, a trip to the beach, or a gourmet experience. Getaway for a week or just a weekend.
Melbourne may be a city of enduring tradition, but it is also one of endless innovation, design and creativity. It's a city that constantly surprises and intrigues with its abundance of hidden cafes, bars, galleries and boutiques, all sitting within a labyrinth of laneways and arcades.
Only an hour's drive from Melbourne, Mornington Peninsula seems a world away. Rolling hills of olive groves and vineyards meet sea views, and local produce is served in romantic restaurants and sold at bustling markets.
Stand nose to nose with koalas, share a beach with hungry pelicans, watch a colony of fur seals, and walk with penguins. The best part is, on Phillip Island, nature's happy to get close to you.
Nagambie and the Strathbogie Ranges
Outdoor and water sports are favourite pastimes in this pristine lakeland area, as are skydiving, gliding and ballooning. Spend your weekends with spectacular views from lookouts throughout the Strathbogie Ranges, or sample local wines at vineyards and cellar doors.
Yarra Valley and the Dandenongs
Tall trees and ancient mountain ranges meet world class wineries. An hour's drive from Melbourne, Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges is a timeless sanctuary and home to stylish restaurants, quality produce and boutique accommodation.
