Melbourne - A Love Affair | Matt Irwin
Matt has to be Melbourne's finest photographer, if not its proudest Melburnian photographer.
He has been capturing Melbourne on film for a long time selling prints, books and artwork in his shops and at markets around Melbourne including The Arts Centre Sunday Market. One Sunday we met his lovely father who proudly told us about his son, who we had wondered so long about.
Melbourne - A Love Affair
Without doubt, the finest photographic book about Melbourne.
Regardless of where the reader is from, the images in this book show Melbourne in all its forms. From its heart in the CBD to its suburbs, its weather, Melbourne at different times of the day, Melbourne from all angles.
Regulars will see well known Matt images, as well as his quirky side not often seen.
The reader will soon realise Matt loves his craft. His photographs at all times of the day and night, capturing special Melbourne moments in time not seen by Melburnians let alone visitors to the city.
Yes, there are the tourist standard shots but they are over-shadowed by iconic glimpses presented in colour as well as black and white.
I was delighted to be given this book as a 60th birthday present, slowly flicking through the images the following day. I own a few thousand books about Melbourne and rate this in my top 5 as the best books I own on Melbourne.
One interesting observation, it does not appear that the book can be purchased online through either Australian shops Fishpond.com.au or BookTopia.com.au.
Matt, take a bow!~
Somewhat unsurprizingly, there are many reviews of Matts work, scroll down to see some that I found.
