Margaret Pratt Foundation
The Margaret Pratt Foundation Heart Lung Transplant Trust is a registered charity whose aim is to encourage, develop and maintain Australia's world class expertise in the field of organ transplantation by supporting research that addresses the problems faced by children and adults after heart and lung transplant.
The aim of the research must be to improve the outcomes for heart and lung transplant recipients.
In 1993 Margaret was diagnosed, after a long and difficult series of tests and explorations, with a condition called primary pulmonary hypertension a rare condition affecting the blood vessels of the lungs whereby they become very narrow restricting blood flow to the heart. Eventually this condition leads to heart failure and ultimately death. It has no known cause and mainly affects women in their 20's and 30's.
