Mandeville Hall

Mandeville Hall

Mandeville Hall (1869) is one of Melbourne's lavishly decorated 19th-century mansions.

A classical appearance with 30 rooms, including a grand entrance hall and conservatory, an oak parlour, and an Indian room.

Building - Mandeville Hall
Mandeville Hall was originally a sixteen room mansion built for Alfred Watson of the colonial trading firm William Watson & Sons.

It was designed by architect Joseph Reed and originally named St Georges.

In 1876, Joseph Clarke acquired the property and engaged Charles Webb to enlarge the house and it was then re-named Mandeville Hall.

The works gave a boom style extravagance to the more austere, classical appearance of the earlier house and increased its size to 30 rooms. The ornate facade and front portion with grand entrance hall and conservatory, oak parlour, Indian room and exotic bathroom date from this period.

After Clarkes' death in 1895, Mandeville Hall had a number of transformations, including being an exclusive guest house, before eventually being purchased by the Loreto Sisters in 1924 as an Independent Catholic girls school, which it still is today.

School - Loreto Mandeville Hall Toorak
The building was acquired by the Loreto Sisters in 1924 and is now a private school, Loreto Mandeville Hall Toorak.

Loreto Mandeville Hall is an independent Roman Catholic single-sex primary and secondary day school for girls. It is one of many Loreto schools around the world, established by the Loreto Sisters founded some 400 years ago by Mary Ward.

Loreto Mandeville Hall Toorak is an environment where your daughter will be nurtured, challenged and encouraged to be the best that she can be.

Each year, Loreto Toorak presents its academic results with pride. But this is only one aspect of our holistic approach to education. Our shared focus is an authentic Loreto experience; providing our students with the challenges and opportunities they need to truly excel in life.
