Locky's Legacy - Wildlife Animal Shelter

Locky's Legacy - Wildlife Animal Shelter

Locky's Legacy is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and wildlife shelteris located in Pakenham Upper.

We are surrounded by native bush land here with 300 acres and a reserve backing onto our property. We have many wild wombats, kangaroos, wallabies, echidas and countless bird life here. We are a very new shelter and we are still setting up our facilities. In the future, we'd like to encourage volunteers to help us around our shelter or possibly even educate the public about how precious our wildlife is.

But who was Locky? He was a little Brushtail possum who passed away overnight unexpectedly in his sleep. He was a sweet little boy who loved life. We decided to name our shelter after him so his memory can live on.

Donations

For anyone interested in donating, we accept donations in the form of old sheets, towels and blankets. Anyone who'd like to make pouches or possum boxes for our animals are also greatly accepted. We DO NOT accept any money donations. Call 0431 635 858.

Locky's Legacy

Lyndel Chalmers is the owner of Locky's Legacy, a property located approximately 10km north of Pakenham.

The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary, and it is Lyndel's intent to continue to utilise the property for conservation purposes. The sanctuary is also a registered wildlife shelter with plans to open an eco-friendly bed and breakfast in the future.

Locky's Legacy covers approximately 5.9 hectares of hilly, native bushland with a dam and a creek running through the end of the property, providing a vital water source for wildlife. The sanctuary is dominated by eucalypt woodlands and native undergrowth with riparian vegetation along the creek bank.

Wildlife species known to inhabit the sanctuary include sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita), superb lyrebirds (Menura novahollandiae), kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguineae), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), bare nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus) and a variety of water birds, wrens, finches and robins.
