Laverton Steam Train Rides
Skirt Port Phillip Bay by steam, with return shuttles from Laverton Station via the 'Altona Loop' for one day only on Sunday 29th March 2026.
These shuttles will travel on a scenic return journey through Melbourne's Inner West and along Port Phillip Bay at Altona, hauled one-way by a steam locomotive.
It is anticipated that this will be the last time that we will be able to run a steam train via the Altona Loop due to timetable changes occurring shortly after these shuttles.
Take a seat in our heritage electric 'Red Rattler' Tait train, with beautiful wood veneer panelling, pressed tin ceilings and opening windows to fully experience the steam era!
Come along for a fun family day out through Melbourne's suburbs.
TICKET OPTIONS
5 x return shuttles will depart Laverton Railway Station at 10:15am, 11:15am, 12:15pm, 2:35pm and 3:35pm.
These 50 minute shuttles will operate to Aircraft Station, Altona Junction (near Newport) and return via the Altona Loop, passengers will not be able to join/leave the train at any other station than Laverton.

NOTE: THESE TRAIN SHUTTLES DEPART TO AND FROM LAVERTON STATION ONLY, PASSENGERS CANNOT BOARD OR LEAVE THE TRAIN AT ANY OTHER STATIONS.
Please be at the station at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to your departure time.
