Joe Hockey loves Melbourne

NOT everything federal Tourism Minister Joe Hockey says makes sense, but this time he has it right. Mr Hockey says that Sydney (from where he hails) is tired and complacent, event-rich Melbourne is exciting. But Victorians already knew that their capital is the sporting and arts capital of Australia. Thus they are not surprised to hear that Sydney is beginning to slip behind in the tourism race. Perhaps now Mr Hockey will be able to persuade his boss, Prime Minister John Howard, to forsake the harbour views from Sydney's Kirribilli House more often, and travel south to where the action is.
