Japanese Film Festival 2019
The Japanese Film Festival (JFF) returns to Melbourne for its 23rd year from November 21st - December 1st, as part of a massive national tour in Canberra, Brisbane, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne, plus a FREE program in Adelaide.
In 2018, more than 30,000 moviegoers attended JFF screenings nationally, enjoying a variety of cinematic delights, from the hottest newly-released feature titles alongside cult, anime, drama, documentaries and much more.
The 2019 Festival program will feature a carefully curated selection of films in each city, special international guests, and school screenings, plus a free 35mm Classics film program in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra - to be announced soon.
From age-old ghost stories to chilling tales from the spirit realm, the Japanese Film Festival (JFF) presents a free classics program featuring spine-tingling horror from 21 September to 26 November.
Titled Grief and Vengeance: Otherworldly Tales in Sydney, with abridged versions in Melbourne and Canberra, the program features landmark films from Japanese horror pioneer Nobuo Nakagawa, alongside contemporaries Masaki Kobayashi and Satsuo Yamamoto.
2019 Japanese Film Festival Classics films featured in Melbourne include:
- The Bride from Hades
- Black Cat Mansion
- The Ghost Story of Yotsuya
Free admission. Tickets available at the cinema from one hour before each screening. A small allocation of early-bird tickets can be booked in advance from Eventbrite (pre-bookings available from 30 September, 9am).
Under 15s must be accompanied by an adult.
