Royal Children's Hospital - Neonatal Unit
Every year the Neonatal Unit at Royal Children's Hospital treat over 700 of the sickest babies in Victoria. We receive referrals of babies from metropolitan Melbourne, regional and rural Victoria, southern New South Wales, Tasmania and in a few cases, from all around Australia and the Pacific.
We aim to provide the best possible care for these sick babies. Over 50% of the babies to our Unit undergo major surgery in the first two weeks of their lives. The remainder of the babies come to us because they need very complex forms of care for severe lung disease and other conditions that only the Royal Children's Hospital can offer.
