Echo of Central Pier

Echo of Central Pier
A new public art installation is lighting up Victoria Harbour, tracing the footprint of the former Central Pier.

Created to honour the pier's maritime history and heritage, Echo features 147 illuminated marine buoys arranged across the water in the shape of the recently demolished section of the pier.

Programmed to glow in a slow, individual rhythm, the buoys create a quiet visual echo of what once stood there.

By day the installation reveals the scale and geometry of Central Pier's former footprint.

By night it becomes a field of light on the harbour, inviting visitors to pause at the water's edge and reflect on the past, present and future stories of Docklands.

Commissioned by Development Victoria, Echo was delivered with support from Heritage Victoria, Parks Victoria and the City of Melbourne, and designed by heritage interpretation specialists LookEar with Mono Design.

Open until 31 Dec
