Dylan Marelic: ...and there's no one around to hear it

..and there's no one around to hear it is an exhibition exploring power structures and ways nature is shaped through human systems.
Artist dylan marelic approaches organic materials as living records-archives of environmental pressure, disruption, and resilience. Each twist or kink in a branch bears witness to its surroundings, responding to nearby construction, redirected light, or shifting soil as it seeks sunlight. These are trajectories of both growth and resistance.
The exhibition combines sculpture and sound to animate these arboreal narratives.
Metal armatures are shaped to follow the natural curves of fallen branches, preserving their form as enduring traces. These metallic elements act as speculative measuring devices-tools imagined to register the subtle movements of trees over time.
Speakers embedded at the junctions release slowed recordings of creaking wood, amplifying the imperceptible shifts that occur as branches respond to environmental changes.
Field recordings made with contact microphones reveal micro-movements-each creak, crack, and strain-offering audiences a sensory experience of the tree's continuing negotiation with its environment.
Through this interplay, the work becomes a call and response between nature and human intervention, foregrounding the ongoing conversation between built systems and the more-than-human world.
