Founded in 1981 by Ron Hall and John Shuster, The Reject Shop opened its first store in the Melbourne suburb of South Yarra. From those beginnings, the business has expanded into a national retail chain with more than 395 stores and over 5,000 employees across Australia.

Over more than 40 years, The Reject Shop has become a household name, recognised for delivering everyday essentials and trusted brands at consistently low prices.

Dollarama Acquisition

In 2025, Canadian discount retail giant Dollarama acquired The Reject Shop, marking a new chapter in the company's history.

Following the acquisition, Dollarama announced plans to transform the Australian business and indicated that stores could eventually be rebranded under the Dollarama name as part of its long-term expansion strategy.
