Creativa: XI exhibition to open at Kindred Cameras
All-female artists Collective 24 will exhibit their latest work at Kindred Cameras on Docklands Drive for Creativa: XI in a show that explores duality in a time of change.
Creativa: XI
Friday 11th September 2026 - Tuesday 22nd September 2026 @ Kindred Cameras, Docklands
'I'm showing the daily life of dress as counterpoint to a museum piece, with sketches of fine ink in deep frames,' said collective member and artist Toni Edwards.
'By adding one to ten, the Roman numeral XI represents a change from ordinary to artefact, or from worn and intimate, to preserved and distant.'
The theme provides a broad brush for each artist to paint her way to the future, and for observers to see the results over eleven days from Friday September 11.
Other works for sale include tondo collages by Spanish-born Ana Ruiz, inspired by kimono fabric designs and artists Joan Miró, Clifford Possum, and Loló Soldevilla; and abstract works in acrylic and oils on wood by Mexican-Australian artist Yessie Moreno.
'The events in your life are what make it, and I represent this with interlocking geometric patterns in a high-contrast style, rhythmically arranged in many possible combinations,' said Yessie.
Kindred Cameras was conceived by artists and educators Chris Bowes and Jade Richards-Butler as a creative sanctuary, and a new space to exhibit work in the heart of the Docklands, since 2023.
'As artists ourselves, we know how valuable it is to have accessible spaces to exhibit and bring ideas to life,' said Jade. 'We're looking forward to welcoming Collective 24 to the gallery and seeing how the nine artists bring their different practices together for Creativa: XI.'
Their second show in two years, the all-female collective of nine Melbourne-based artists continue to work with non-traditional media, oils, charcoal and watercolour on paper, canvas, and wood; with pieces available to buy from $200.
Creativa: XI opens on September 11 at 6pm with music provided by the Evatt Kyriacou Trio - featuring three great players from the Melbourne jazz scene with Evatt on piano, and Darren and Adam on double-bass and saxophone.
Catering will be provided, as well as a choice of wines and soft drinks, with vegetarian and gluten-free options available.
