Polly Woodside: Connections to the Birrarung

Explore the ongoing impacts and effects of colonisation and industrialisation through different lenses on the banks of the Birrarung (Yarra River) at Polly Woodside.
Join First Nations educators from Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation for an experience to learn about Wurundjeri people and their continual deep connection to Country.
Gain an understanding of traditional Wurundjeri tools, their uses, and knowledge passed down through generations. Listen to a Creation story that reflects on their cultural and spiritual ties to the land and waters of the Birrarung.
Then, step aboard Polly Woodside with our crew to explore the life of a sailor focusing on nautical technologies and conditions at sea in the time of sailing ships. Please note the ship is limited with a gangway and stairs, the only method to board the ship and move around.
This event is presented as part of the Australian Heritage Festival 2026 in partnership with Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation.
