Community Hub at The Dock |
Community Hub at The Dock is located on the waterfront where Collins Street meets Bourke Street in Victoria Harbour.
The two-storey facility includes:
a community boating hub on the ground floor, which will be home to the Docklands Yacht Club, the Victorian Dragon Boat Association and the Melbourne Outrigger Canoe club
a family services centre on the second floor, including:
four consulting rooms
a playgroup room
a large outdoor playground
a group program room
a large multi-purpose room for community hire.
The new facility will be next to the Library at The Dock, which opened in May 2014.
Key features
The two-storey building will be reminiscent of the scale and materiality of the existing marine industrial buildings of the wharves at Docklands. At ground level on the Collins Street side, an undercover pedestrian walkway with framed glazed windows will allow views into the boating activities and through to the water. On the east, facing Dock Square, the building will have an extended roof which forms an urban veranda.
