Castlemaine State Festival 2026
Victoria's Premier Regional Arts Festival - showcases works from the region's finest artists and performing arts companies alongside national and international artists.
The Castlemaine State Festival is a ten day multi-arts celebration that draws on the distinctive culture of the central Victorian goldfields region - of old and new of the artistic and the agricultural and its dynamic community strengths.
Audiences in excess of 50,000 add to the vibrant spirit of the festival getting involved in the productions and exhibitions across the visual arts dance circus music theatre hot-rod culture literature and a dedicated program for young people. Set amongst the unique central Victorian landscape venues include historic churches and theatres mines and quarries public and private gardens.
The Castlemaine State Festival began in 1976 through the vision of founder Berek Segan AM OBE and has now grown to become Australia's longest running flagship regional arts festival. The Festival preceded any other Victorian arts festivals and has been unique in its scope and diversity, and in its impact on the social and cultural fabric of central Victoria and environs.
Castlemaine State Festival's future is secured
After entering voluntary administration in 2024, Castlemaine State Festival is ready to face the future and preparing to rebuild.
The news, announced in July 2024, means that the biennial Castlemaine State Festival will be able to celebrate it's 50th year and 25th season in March 2026.

GETTING AROUND
BY FOOT
A range of walking maps including natural and cultural heritage walks in Castlemaine and surrounding areas are available from the Visitor Information Centre in the Castlemaine Market Building Mostyn Street. BY BIKE
A fleet of bicycles with helmets are available for hire from $25/half-day and $35/full-day from the Castlemaine Visitor Information Centre.

BY TAXI
Castlemaine Taxis service all areas in the region and can be contacted on 131 008.
