Festival Hall

One of Melbourne's original entertainment venues, Festival Hall hosts a variety of events, from amateur boxing to top-name band performances with an extremely versatile and adaptable physical layout.

Festival Hall in Melbourne was once "the place to be seen" and the venue of many sell out sports and entertainment events. Formerly known as the West Melbourne Stadium, Festival Hall was a famous boxing and wrestling venue - known to locals as "the House of Stoush" with many a riot, some even spilling out onto the street and parking lot.

FESTIVAL HALL HISTORY

Melbourne's Festival Hall was built by John Wren in 1915 and rebuilt in 1956 after being burnt down the year before, and was the Olympic Games venue for gymnastics and wrestling.

Festival Hall is also an entertainment centre, with famous appearances including Bill Haley, Frank Sinatra and the Beatles. Locally Battle of the Bands was a favourite including AC/DC, Bee Gee's, Russel Morris, Battle of the Bands, .

By the 1990s it had been overtaken by more spectacular Melbourne venues, but the Wren family remains in ownership.
